Scraped through last year
An old steel spatula run across
Precariously perched cast iron skillet
Teetering over the edge of the sink.
Run raw against the deluge
Absolve these scorched crumbs
O ye benevolent garbage disposal,
Ye belching sarlacc of the kitchen.
Stare at bathroom mirror through
The eyes of seven-thousand
Generations of successful breeding
They didn't floss so why should I.
New year a morning after long snow
Ground and sky brilliant and bright
You shield your eyes for an eternity
So you can finally see the red rose again.
