Those of you who actually visit this site (rather than just subscribing to the blog1) will notice a new site design. I’ve removed the music aspect of the previous design and made this site into more of the personal, writing-oriented site that I intended. My writing and comics will be the main focus of this site. I hope you think it looks spiffy. I think it looks very spiffy, and it’s quick and all that.

None of the writing stuff is actually available yet, though. It takes a while to build pages for each thing that I write, and I just wanted to get the design up first so that it was obvious that the direction of the site was changing (really just going back to its roots).

Regarding comics: the real reason Test Comic hasn’t been updated in a month or whatever is not because I am lazy, but because my computer FREEZES every. single. time I try to make a new comic. There’s nothing more frustrating than opening up Photoshop, loading the sprite sheets and backgrounds, making everything look nice and pretty, and having the computer freeze 3/4th of the way through the process. I am on a path to purchase a new computer, which will take me a couple of weeks of work. Once that happens, though, expect new comics and all sorts of fun stuff.

NEW SITES!

I now have websites for Here Lies Laika and King of Trees, my two musical side projects. The King of Trees site is here: iamthekingoftrees.com, while the Here Lies Laika one is here: herelieslaika.com (and is not linked because I haven’t even started it yet!). Expect awesome stuff to come from those sites very soon.

What about me? Well I’ve got a blog coming up very soon about how I played hooky from work and got caught. I am also working on a new EP, because I recently purchased an electric guitar and distortion pedal, and I’ve got three songs that kick ass and am working on more. My love life is still dismal and I purchased the 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons books the other weekend. So we can see where I’m headed. Hopefully I pull my ostrich head out of the sand soon and check out the world.

I thank you all for reading and sticking around, though. You’re all nice people.

So here’s a big thing that I am working on right now, in between job searching and playing with dogs: I’m paring down my song list to a CD-sized chunk that will take the place of the multitudinous amount of songs I have available for download right now. What does that mean? It means one album, free for download. All others will have to be purchased. I don’t know how that’s going to work out yet, cause purchase means iTunes, which means having money. So they probably won’t be available for a while.

Why am I doing this? Because I have too much stuff available for free. Not all of it is great, some of it is good, and I want to separate the good stuff from the mediocre and establish myself as a musician who is not afraid to sell his own music. I feel like right now people just grab my stuff for free and then that’s it. There’s no incentive for you to really listen, nor is there incentive for me to work harder to make my music better.

So here’s the breakdown:

There will be one “best of” (ugh, i hate that term) album that will be available for FREE on my website. It will be a Josh Belville CD. All other albums will be available for an EXTREMELY CHEAP purchase price (I’m talking, like, two bucks per album).

Right now, Songs for Summer and the Aaron Kiefer EP will be available for download THIS MONTH ONLY. After September 30th they will be removed and you will have to purchase them.

UPDATE: MORE SPECIFICALLY, the AK EP will only be up until FRIDAY NIGHT. So get it soon!

There will be no more sun city EPs, and the old sun city stuff will be removed. It was a good run but most of those songs became Josh Belville songs anyway.

Here Lies Laika will become a separate band, with its own website and info. For now the website is http://herelieslaika.blogspot.com. This band will be formed here in Portland, just as soon as I get the money and resources for it.

All other projects (Attaquin Beach, King of Trees, even Nogood Boyos) will be removed from the site. Again, they were incorporated into my stuff so they’re unnecessary.

The discography information for these albums will remain on my site, archived.

And that’s it.

I could really use some suggestions for songs on the Internet Album. I have a few songs that must go on there (Europa, City of Trees, the original Boise), but otherwise it’s all up in the air.

I know this all sounds kind of harsh, but it’s nearly impossible to get a bearing on how many people are listening to this stuff and actually like it enough to, say, keep it on their iPods. Plus I’d rather dole out quality over quantity.

So if you have any suggestions for songs, please either comment or send them to me at thelegionnaire (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you!

Okay, first off, I don’t do this very much, but I just sent an e-mail to a person on Craigslist regarding a job. The job was as a part time English/Reading/Writing tutor at the Huntington Learning Center. My job would be to help kids prepare for the SATs/ACTs and all that. Anyway, I’m asking for some good vibes my way, because the job pays well and it would be a humongous step up from telemarketing, and by god I deserve a break today, and not in that stupid McDonalds way. The job sounds perfect for me. PERFECT. I’m a good writer, I have strong skills in English and Reading and Writing, and I’m a very good and patient teacher, and I work well with kids. The only bad thing would be that it’s five miles away, but dammit, I will bike there anyway, I don’t care. It’s worth it.

I spent my entire life writing. I’m good at it, I have a strong grasp of grammar, punctuation, and structure. I could, if one really wanted me, show my continual progression as a writer, from high school to now. I proofread even when I don’t want to. Good god this job is perfect for me! Perfect I say!

Okay, well, anyway, send me good vibes because I need some good vibes right now. That can be in the form of prayers, luck, overall vibes, or, if you really want, $100 bills. You pick.

The other thing I wanted to write about was that I have spent a lot of my time in my room recording music for this 50/90 nonsense, and it has been a blast. Lately, spurred by a fellow 50/90er’s idea of writing 10 EPs by ten different (fake) bands, I created my own band, Here Lies Laika. They rock. I’ve recorded a five-song EP, self-titled, and the songs are great and I’m very proud of it. If you want to listen to it you can check my 50/90 author page, or you can wait until July 29th, when the album is going to “drop.” The band is entirely fictional, a stripped-down three-piece out of Boise, and I’m writing their exploits on another blog, if you want to check that out as well.

This all is what I do after I go to my silly job. It helps calm me.

I’m actually planning on selling this EP, though. Probably for five bucks. That’s how much I like it. I might tour as them, too. Well, just me, of course. I’ll play an acoustic set! I’m excited.

Okay, that’s it. Send good vibes! That is all.
