1. I am Xander in the Buffy musical. Well, the one we’re doing here in Portland. I woke up at a surprisingly reasonable hour, got myself all prettied up, and took the 72 to near MLK dr, and found a particular house. Knocked on the door. This was 11am at this point. No answer. Wait. Knock again. At which point a cute, short lady, who I’m pretty sure is a lesbian, named Malcolm opened the door and pulled a hand over her groggy, freshly-awoken face. ”Hi!” I said cheerfully. ”Did I wake you?”
Fifteen minutes later, no need for audition, she said I was playing Xander. I am happy.
2. I’m trying to figure out what the hell to do with my website. I’m wondering if I should put this blog on the front page or not (meaning, at zornog.net rather than zornog.net/blog/). Does anyone have any ideas? I dunno, I think having a WordPress blog up front just makes the whole thing seem more … professional. Or something. Plus I think I want to pull back on the “musician” feel to the whole thing. Maybe direct my music energies to my myspace site. Ideally I would have a separate site for music (one day I shall register coolkidjosh.com), mostly because pimping zornog.net just sucks. You can’t go to an open mic, play some songs, and say, “Check out my website, zornog.net.” Nobody knows how to spell zornog. Plus it’s just silly. I should have a separate music website. Kind of like how John Darnielle has mountain-goats.com for the band and Last Plane to Jakarta as his own blog.
Yeah, the more I talk it out (type it out?) the more that sounds like a good idea. I’d rather the site be more centered around the general things that I do (or don’t do) than about my music. To be honest I’m getting kind of sick of my music. I think I’ve been arrogant and haughty about it and all butthurt when people don’t buy my albums online. Lazy, lazy, lazy. No music for a while, I think. Except for that last NaSoAlMo song, then I’m taking a break from self-promotion.
The problem with the internet is that it’s impossible to determine how many people are reading what you’re writing. If you stand at a podium you can see how many people you’re addressing. There needs to be an internet equivalent to that. Blogger tried to introduce “followers” but that only works if you’re a Blogger member. I can’t do a mailing list because this IS my mailing list.
Maybe I really ought to start the Josh Belville All-Stars. People could sign up and I’d make stickers or something. That sounds like fun.
