Re:Me

Hello. My name's Josh. This is my website. It's my blog and a showcase of things that I've made over the years. Have a look around. Let me know what you think.

This site is about as optimized for mobile as I can get it. I'm no CSS expert. So sorry if some stuff looks wonky.

Projects

Just some stuff I've dabbled in over the years.

Avo: A D&D Campaign Setting - This is a wiki dedicated to my homebrew world for my 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons games. It has a long history of creation stretching back about 20 years, which you can read about on the wiki.

Other D&D Worlds - In addition to Avo, I've created a few other D&D worlds, which you can read about here.

Old Video Game Website Designs - One thing I liked to do when I was younger was make my website out of video game themes. I'm surprised that these still work. Tables -- lots and lots of tables.

Sprite Comics - *COMING SOON* Another thing that I liked to do is make comics out of video game sprites.

Writing

You can read all this stuff for free, share it with your friends, etc. Tell me it sucks. Give me money because you thought it was great. Whatever you need to do.

Verse

Five-Syllable Sonnets (2007-2014)

This was a long term project that sort of fizzled out in 2014, but I think it had a good run. Fourteen lines, five syllables each line. Wrote them at home, at work, at school, on planes, right before I slept and right after I woke up.

Plays

You can download and read all of my plays for free but please review the Play Production Rates and contact me if you wish to perform them. This is all on the honor system and I won't punish anyone for performing my works without paying me, but if you're going to do that, at least attribute them to me and tell me how the shows went.

Full Lengths

Peace [2m, 2w] - A family at Christmastime deals with the aftermath of their father's sudden life-saving surgery, while two siblings help each other find direction in their aimless lives.

The Messiah of Main St [2m, 5w] - A man discovers that he is the next incarnation of Christ and ends up destroying himself trying to save others.

One Acts

They're History [3m; comedy] - Two bumbling thieves travel back in time to secure IBM stock, except they go to the wrong year and are accosted by a World War II army man tracking down deserters.

Thank You Fifteen [3m, 1w; comedy] - Three guys get ready for a play, and along the way one of them finds out the other slept with his soon-to-be ex-wife.

Save vs Nerd [3m, 1w; comedy] - Two nerds convince their now-cool friend to play one last Dungeons & Dragons game. He doesn't want to, but his new "girlfriend" does.

The Anarchist and the Carpenter [2m; dramedy] - A philosophical play about two men from opposite spectrums who have to work together in order to survive.

The Night Llewellyn Died [2w; drama] (coming soon) - In the midst of a drunken one night stand, Patty is left alone when her lover Llewellyn goes off to a nearby convenience store to buy condoms. As she waits for him to return, she is forced to deal with his 13-year-old daughter, Bridget.

Inspiration [3m, 1w; dramedy] (link coming when I finish next draft) - Wes breaks up his band and then breaks up with his girlfriend so he can feel depressed enough to write his next hit album. As you might expect, everyone isn't too happy about that.

Shorter Plays

Delusions of Grandeur [1m, 2w; 10 min; comedy] - A nerdy comic book store employee wastes time waiting for his "dream girl," but when she actually enters the store, he has difficulty dealing with her.

Fear of Fears [2m, 1w; 10 min; comedy] - A weird little play about people with fears -- Danny is afraid of knowledge, his sister Marcia is afraid of confrontation, and her boyfriend Charlie is afraid of being afraid. And they are all stuck in the Library of Congress.

The Circle of Love [1m, 1w; 10 min; drama] - A cute little play about a guy helping his girlfriend get over her fear of heights -- with a twist at the end.

The Man from Spermacide-9 [2m, 1w; 10 min; ridiculous comedy] - Alien gets transported to a man's home. His race is dying. He needs one thing to survive. You get to guess what it is.

Bad Mothers [2m, 1w; 10 min; comedy] - Two bad dudes are about to do a bad thing, when a pregnant lady enters and well it's a play so of course she has to give birth, right?

[This is one of the first plays I wrote in undergrad. It's weird how, at the time, I thought it was pretty good -- it was even read at the regional Kennedy Center Theatre Festival that year -- and yet now I look at it and I'm like, "This is terrible." But it has some good parts to it. Maybe I'll revise it someday, who knows.]

Bus Trip [2w; 5 min; drama] - A woman and her sister on a bus ride. Really short script.

Chauncey [1m; 2-3 min; comedy] - A monologue from a 16 year old boy who thinks women smell good.

The Old Man and the Toaster [1m; 10 min; dramedy] - A long monologue about an old man about to take his own life with his favorite toaster.

Stories

Still debating whether or not to put my stories up. I don't think many of them are very good anymore.

Music

95% of my music is available to stream on your preferred music app. Spotify, YouTube, etc. The rest you can find on my Bandcamp site. Below are my newest releases, from 2021.

About Me

Born May 12, 1983 in Nampa, Idaho. My dad is a musician-turned-therapist-turned-retired due to disability; my mom dabbled in acting and education before being an office manager of a locksmith shop for way too long. She is also retired. I have two older brothers: Russ, the marijuana activist, and Matt, the accountant who now lives in Hawaii. Both were musicians, Russ moreso.

Got my undergraduate degree at Boise State, then moved to Portland, Oregon on a whim and with about $40 in my pocket from selling plasma that day. Went to grad school at Portland State. Both degrees are in Theatre Arts. I don't do theatre anymore.

I have a cute cat named Jowers. I like video games, D&D, and, surprisingly, running. Also, food.

Thanks for hanging out on my website. I hope you enjoyed yourself.
